Category: Strong Communities

Developing and nurturing strong communities is a key concern of the cohousing movement. Cohousing communities are unusually stable, secure, and nurturing. They are also an ideal model for understanding self-governance and participating in a democratic society but socioeconomic diversity has been elusive. Since cohousing has been dependent on conventional financing and limited by zoning requirements, the communities are almost universally limited to professionals. Creating cohousing for the millions of people who earn less than the median income means changing the system, and until then working around it. Affordable Cohousing is trying to change that.
